Internships are an integral part of a student's transition into the profession. Although it's it's

. Don't leave school knowing only what you don't want to do; instead, do another internship. The second (or third) one wouldn't be for credit, but it will help you decide what to focus on in the future.

Along with your school keeping you accountable to the internship duties, you should ask to do more, especially things about which you can tell a future employer, "I was in charge of this program and it was my idea to do such and such." To find an internship in a geographic or specialty area, do your homework and then take the initiative to make an appointment at that agency. Meet with the people that you would most likely work for. For example, if you want to work for a city government's parks and recreation department, go to the specific division that interests you, whether it's a recreation center, marketing, athletics athletics
