Advertising agencies: ranked by 2008 Los Angeles county billings.EXECUTIVE SUMMARY RUBIN Postaer and Associates once again tops the list of the largest advertising agencies in L.A. County. The firm accounts for 35 percent of the gross billings among those listed. With billings of more than $1.1 billion, it more than doubles its nearest local competitor. Broadcast advertising is the dominant medium for agencies listed, with print and Internet advertising holding the second and third positions, respectively. Los Angeles-based Quigley-Simpson saw the largest percentage increase in billings. The firm reported $282 million in billings for 2007, up $107 million or 60 percent from the previous year. The agency has many large clients including Cincinnatibased Procter & Gamble Co. Other clients include Visa, Warner Home Video and Reunion.com. Long Beach-based Intertrend Communications saw the second largest percentage increase on the list. The firm reported $78 million in local billings, up 42 percent over 2006. Its client list includes Torrance-based Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A., Burbank-based Walt Disney Co. and Glendale-based Nestle U.S.A. Overall, the 15 largest firms reported combined gross billings of $3.2 billion, up $332 million or 11 percent from the previous year. They employ more than 1,100 people in their Los Angeles County offices. --David Nusbaum THE PACESETTER SANTA Monica-based Rubin Postaer & Associates is the top independent advertising agency in Los Angeles County with gross billings of $1.1 billion, up $100 million from the previous year. [ILLUSTRATION OMITTED] The firm is one of the largest independent agencies in the country. In an industry that has been raked by consolidation in recent years, that could make the firm a target for acquisition. However, Gerrold Rubin and Larry Postaer have kept the agency independent since they founded it in 1986. One of the firm's top clients is American Honda Motor Co., a unit of Honda Motor Co. Ltd. The firm has handled the account for 33 years, including the time as part of its predecessor agency. The company launched a separate division for another automotive client, Acura. The division will be housed in offices next to the company's headquarters and will have a team that will service Acura as it plans to launch models in 2009 to compete in the luxury sector. Dave Weber will serve as executive vice president and general manager for the division while John Hage will serve as senior vice president and creative director for the account. The firm continues to pick up new clients, with Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas hiring the firm in February. RPA will handle all integrated marketing efforts for the property. Rubin and Postaer founded the agency after their former employer, Needham Harper & Steers, was merged with Doyle Dan Berbach.
