Anorth Tyneside man is on the up after winning his dream job at the Mercantile Building Society The Mercantile Building Society was a UK building society. It merged with the Leeds Building Society in 2006[1]. References

Glen Johnson Glen Johnson may refer to:

, 26, from Whitley Bay spotted the advert for a senior customer service adviser and was snapped up by Mercantile's Whitley Bay branch.

A former estate agent, Glen is enjoying his new challenge. His new role includes, the general day-to-day running of the branch and introducing new customers to mortgages.

He said: "I am looking forward to the new opportunities that this position will bring. It allows me to specialise in mortgage advice and investment products, as well as continuing to build a good one to one relationship with our customers."

Gordon Robinson, director and chief executive of Mercantile, said: "As a mutual society, Mercantile is committed to providing our customers with professional advice and assistance, and I wish Glen well in his new role."

Mercantile Building Society was established in North Shields in 1875. The society has grown steadily over the years through the amalgamation of smaller local societies and organic growth.

The society now has 12 branches and 10 agencies in Northumberland, Tyne and Wear Tyne and Wear, former metropolitan county, NE England. Created in the 1974 local government reorganization, the county embraced the Newcastle upon Tyne conurbation and comprised five metropolitan districts: Newcastle upon Tyne, North Tyneside, South Tyneside,  and County Durham with a workforce of 90 staff.
