Advanta Netherlands Holdings BV, the parent company of the Advanta Group, has reached an agreement to sell its European field crop business to Limagrain. Advanta will retain its global sugarbeet business unit and its Australia, Asia and South America businesses including joint ventures. The sale includes Advanta's European maize, grasses Grasse, town (1990 pop. 42,077), Alpes-Maritime dept., SE France. Probably founded in Roman times, Grasse was a commercial center during the Middle Ages. Destroyed many times by the Saracens, it was an independent republic from the 12th cent. until its union with the earldom of Provence in 1226. In 1536 the town was destroyed by Francis I to prevent the advance of Emperor Charles V., cereals, winter oilseed rape, sunflowers, onions, peas and rootseeds businesses, and also extends to include the grasses breeding and outlicensing business unit in Albany, Ore., and the North American sunflower business unit located in Fargo, N.D. The acquired business will continue to have access to the Advanta trademark where relevant for divested crops in their territories.
