Advanced fingerprint verification security added to Oracle Universal Server; Identix's biometric authentication technology provides heightened database security.

REDWOOD SHORES, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 10, 1997--Oracle Corp. (NASDAQ NM:ORCL) on Monday announced the forthcoming production availability of technology usually associated with the world of espionage and high security -- biometric authentication -- in the next release of its flagship Oracle Universal Server offering.

Through the Oracle Advanced Networking Option and the Identix TouchNet II personal identity verification system users' identities can be assured simply by the touch of a finger at a desktop terminal. Identix Inc. (ASE:IDX) of Sunnyvale, Calif. is a world leader in personal identity verification systems and live-scan systems.

Traditionally used in some of the most sensitive government and military systems worldwide, fingerprint-recognition technology offers dramatic new levels of security for the rapidly growing number of distributed access data systems, particularly corporate intranets. The Identix system allows authentication based on the unique physical characteristics of a user's fingerprint, removing the need for passwords, security cards or codes while maintaining both convenience and security.

American Medical Network (AMN) is beta testing the system for a database containing a wide variety of patient diagnoses and treatments referenced by over 100 Florida physicians. James F.
