Advanced WASL Score Earns up to $12,000 in Scholarships.In Effort to Boost Interest in Math and the Sciences, DeVry University Offers Financial Incentives to Families with Students Achieving "Level 4" Scores on Eighth- and 10(th)-grade WASLs WASL - Washington Assessment of Student Learning (Washington State) WASL - Wisconsin Association of School Librarians FEDERAL WAY, Wash. -- High school students who achieved top marks on the Washington Assessment of Student Learning (WASL) now qualify for up to $12,000 in tuition scholarships to attend DeVry University. Students eligible for the DeVry University WASL Scholarship include those who scored "Advanced" (Level 4) on the eighth- or 10th-grade WASL taken in spring 2006, as well as high school seniors graduating in spring 2007 and class of 2006 graduates of Washington high schools who achieved this level. "I applaud DeVry University in its effort to help students see the value of the skills measured by our state assessment for their future opportunities," said Terry Bergeson, state superintendent of public instruction. "As we aim to ensure our children are well-equipped to succeed in the 21st century, DeVry is a highly appreciated partner." DeVry will award students with qualifying 10th-grade math and science WASL scores a $1,500 scholarship for each semester the student is enrolled in a bachelor's degree program at DeVry University's Federal Way or Seattle/Bellevue campuses, for a total of up to $12,000 over eight semesters. Students achieving qualifying scores on the eighth-grade science WASL are eligible to lock in a scholarship award of $500 per each semester the student is enrolled at DeVry, for a total of up to $4,000. The eighth-grade scholarships will be granted by DeVry University regardless of the student's subsequent performance on the 10th-grade WASL as long as the student achieves the requirements for high school graduation. DeVry has set no limit on the number of scholarships it will grant.
