Using a modified version of ART's adaptable handwriting recognition engine embedded in the Cruise Cat's driver, users can define simple touch gestures on the touchpad A stationary pointing device that provides a small, flat surface that you slide your finger over using the same movements as you would a mouse. "The combination of ART's Gesture-recognition technology with Cirque's Glidepoint(R) technology in the Cruise Cat touchpad is designed to enable users to quickly and easily maneuver through applications as well as accelerate Internet access," said Richard Woolley, product director of Cirque. "With simple finger strokes, users can instantly access Web sites, files, shortcuts See Win Shortcuts.  and commands."

ART's Gesture recognition technology is based on shape recognition, employing a light, flexible recognition engine that can work with a predefined character set, or can completely adapt to the user's own writing style. ART's technology can support any language or combination of languages, customized alphabets, unlimited macros and application launching.

Due to its low processing power requirements, Gesture recognition is ideally suited for many types of devices that would benefit from handwriting recognition as a method of text input or gesture control, such as handheld and palm-size computers, wireless phone touchpads and many others.

"ART's gesturing capability is easy to use, yet very powerful to the user," stated Rick McCaskill, executive vice president & general manager of ART. "The integration of ART's Gesture control into Cirque's Cruise Cat provides PC users with a navigation device that uses instinctive tools: handwriting and the sense of touch."
