 Distinguished Service Award, the supermarket industry's most prestigious award for contribution to the food marketing industry.

In 1992 he was awarded the National Service Award by the National Grocers Association, and in 1993 he became the second recipient of the National Food Broker's Association Industry Service Award. Blackburn is an active member of many food industry organizations and participates in numerous industry-related advisory councils.

Ira C. "Ike" Herbert retired in December 1991 from The Coca-Cola Co. after nearly 30 years in the soft drink business. Herbert began his career with The Coca-Cola Co. in 1965 bringing extensive executive-level experience with some of the country's top advertising agencies including McCann-Erickson.

After joining Coca-Cola, he was named brand manager for Fanta products. He was elected vice president of the company in 1966, named brand manager for Coca-Cola in 1967, director of Brand Development in 1970, and marketing director in 1971. Herbert was named senior vice-president - Marketing of Coca-Cola USA in 1973.

In 1975 Herbert was named president of Coca-Cola Foods. He was elected executive vice president of The Coca-Cola Co. in 1976, named chief marketing officer in 1982, and appointed deputy to the president in 1986. In 1988, Herbert was named president of both Coca-Cola USA and the North America North America, third largest continent (1990 est. pop. 365,000,000), c.9,400,000 sq mi (24,346,000 sq km), the northern of the two continents of the Western Hemisphere.  Business Sector, with responsibility for Coca-Cola Ltd., the Canadian soft drink division based in Toronto, and Coca-Cola Foods, the citrus juices and drinks unit based in Houston.

The two new directors will fill two vacancies on the company's nine-member board. The appointments will become effective immediately.
