Advanced Power Technology Announces New IGBT for TIG Welder Applications.

BEND, Ore. -- First graph, fourth sentence should read APT200GN60JDQ4 (sted APT200GN60GN60JDQ4).

The corrected release reads:

ADVANCED POWER TECHNOLOGY ANNOUNCES NEW IGBT IGBT Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor
IGBT Integrated Gate Bipolar Transistor
FOR TIG n. 1. A game among children. See Tag.
2. A capacious, flat-bottomed drinking cup, generally with four handles, formerly used for passing around the table at convivial entertainment.
 WELDER APPLICATIONS

Advanced Power Technology (Nasdaq:APTI APTI Association for Preservation Technology International
APTI Air Pollution Training Institute
) is pleased to announce two new IGBT products for TIG Welding applications: APT200GN60J and APT200GN60JDQ4. These discrete devices use the latest generation Field Stop Trench Gate Technology and are offered in the industry standard SOT-227 package. These products are specifically targeted for TIG welding applications, and are an addition to APT's new product line of discrete Field Stop IGBTs. APT200GN60J is a single IGBT and APT200GN60JDQ4 includes a 100A anti-parallel diode. Other anti-parallel diode options are available.

Key Features

--Efficiency -- very low conduction loss

--High current capacity

--Easy to parallel -- tight parameter distribution and positive temperature coefficient Positive Temperature Coefficient (PTC) refers to materials that experience an increase in electrical resistance when their temperature is raised. Materials which have useful engineering applications usually show a relatively rapid increase with temperature, i.e.

--Wide forward safe operating area For power semiconductor device (such as BJT, MOSFET, thyristor or IGBT) a safe operating area (SOA) is defined as the voltage and current conditions over which the device can be expected to operate without self-damage.  -- reliable linear mode operation

--10 microns short circuit rated

--Short tail current due to Field Stop technology -- operates up to 30kHz hard-switched

--Cost effective alternative to modules in high current applications

Applications

These IGBTs are used in the output inverter (1) A logic gate that converts the input to the opposite state for output. If the input is true, the output is false, and vice versa. An inverter performs the Boolean logic NOT operation.

(2) A circuit that converts DC current into AC current. Contrast with rectifier.
of aluminum TIG welders. The device can also be used in any application requiring very low conduction losses at high currents and 0 to 30 kHz switching speed.

Data sheets are available to assist the designer, describing the features and benefits of this new 600V IGBT in greater detail. These may be downloaded from APT's website at http://www.advancedpower.com/ or obtained from the factory.

Availability

Samples are available now. Lead time for large quantity 8-12 weeks. 1K pricing is $12.97.
