Advanced Micro Devices Sues Cypress Semiconductor Corp.


SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 9, 1995--Advanced Micro Devices (AMD (Advanced Micro Devices, Inc., Sunnyvale, CA, www.amd.com) A major manufacturer of semiconductor devices including x86-compatible CPUs, embedded processors, flash memories, programmable logic devices and networking chips. ) announced today that it has filed a patent infringement patent infringement n. the manufacture and/or use of an invention or improvement for which someone else owns a patent issued by the government, without obtaining permission of the owner of the patent by contract, license or waiver.  suit against Cypress Semiconductor Corporation of San Jose, California San Jose (IPA: /ˌsænhoʊˈzeɪ/) is the third-largest city in California, and the tenth-largest in the United States. It is the county seat of Santa Clara County. .

The suit, filed in U.S. District Court in Delaware, alleges that Cypress' family of FLASH 370 programmable logic devices infringes seven patents related to AMD's MACH Family of programmable logic devices. The complaint also alleges that certain programmable logic devices within Cypress' CY7C340 EPLD See EEPLD.  family infringe AMD patents.

The suit asks for both preliminary and permanent injunctions along with unspecified damages. AMD advised Cypress of its willingness to negotiate a license agreement and avoid litigation An action brought in court to enforce a particular right.
