Advanced Interactive Systems Announces Lawsuit Against FATS, Inc.SEATTLE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 14, 1999-- Advanced Interactive Systems, Inc. ("AIS AIS - Abbreviated Injury Scale (accident analysis) AIS - ABCs Information Services AIS - Abu-Dhabi International School (Abu Dhabi, UAE) AIS - Academic Instructor School AIS - Academic Intervention Services AIS - Acceptable Intake for Subchronic Exposure AIS - Accident Information Sheet AIS - Accident Investigation Site AIS - Account Information Security AIS - Account Information Summary AIS - Accountable Instruction System") of Seattle announced today that it has filed a lawsuit against its competitor, FATS, Inc. (Nasdaq:FATS) of Suwanee, Ga. for patent infringement in the United States District Court for the Northern District of California. AIS and FATS both sell judgmental training simulators for use by police forces. AIS asserts that FATS provides simulators with automated projectile "shootback" features that infringe AIS United States Patent No. 5,823,779. The AIS PRIsim(TM) system incorporates the company's patented ShootBack cannon technology. "AIS regrets having to take this action, but is serious about enforcing its patent rights," said AIS CEO Alan Davis. "AIS has invested substantial assets in its research and development and patent protection programs. We cannot allow our competitors to use our inventions in competition with us. Although we remain hopeful that we can resolve this matter amicably, AIS is prepared to pursue its intellectual property rights to the full extent provided by law." Davis further explained that any use of the infringing systems, even by customers, might constitute infringement. "We believe that any use of the FATS simulator with projectile return fire constitutes infringement," Davis said. "Users of the system may be infringing our patent, even if they did not make or sell the system. Accordingly, we are cautioning all users to seek competent legal advice before using a FATS simulator with projectile return fire." Davis said more information about the lawsuit can be obtained from AIS attorneys, including Ramsey Al-Salam at Seed and Berry LLP, 701 Fifth Ave., Suite No. 6300, Seattle, WA 98104.
