Advanced Computer Communications sets new pricing standard for dial-up ISDN routing; Congo Personal now lowest-priced ISDN router on the market.

WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 3, 1997--Advanced Computer Communications (ACC See adaptive cruise control. ), a leading provider of network-access solutions for the home, office and enterprise, announced at ComNet Monday that it has set a new standard for ISDN ISDN

Congo Personal Sets New Price Point

At $645, ACC's Congo Personal is now the lowest-priced ISDN router A device that enables several users on a network to access the Internet via ISDN. Also known as an ISDN LAN modem, it contains a BRI ISDN port and an Ethernet port. It may also provide several Ethernet ports, which lets it serve as a central Ethernet hub for a small workgroup.  on the market. It supports up to four LAN (Local Area Network) A communications network that serves users within a confined geographical area. The "clients" are the user's workstations typically running Windows, although Mac and Linux clients are also used.  devices, TCP/IP TCP/IP

OneIP Reduces Internet Costs, Simplifies Configuration

ACC's extended dynamic IP address management feature, OneIP, allows users to save as much as 70 percent on monthly Internet- access fees. It uses a temporary IP address as a global address for the entire remote LAN, while dynamically assigning ``private'' IP addresses to all devices on the LAN.

OneIP's global addressing scheme eliminates the burden of configuring each device on the LAN with a unique IP address and provides network security by serving as a firewall to prevent access to the LAN from the outside world.

``By reducing the cost of ownership, ACC is seeking to alter the perception of routing as too expensive for SOHO Soho (sōhō`, sə–), district of Westminster, London, England, known for its continental restaurants. Once a fashionable quarter, it became popular among writers and artists in the 19th cent.  Internet access,'' said Lisa Aviani, ACC's SOHO product marketing manager. ``OneIP is an excellent example of ACC's commitment to reducing ownership costs because it allows small businesses to gain Internet access at a lower rate.''

For example, automatic number identification (ANI) allows a caller's records to be retrieved from the database while the call is routed to the appropriate party. ) Adds Functionality

Congo is one of the only personal routers to integrate computer telephony. From a Java-based CTI application, a Congo user can initiate phone calls simply by clicking on a hotlink hotlink - A mechanism for sharing data between two application programs where changes to the data made by one application appear instantly in the other's copy.

Under System 7 on the Macintosh the users establishes a hotlink by doing a "Create Publisher" on the server and
in the personalized, on-line address book. Likewise, when the router receives a phone call, the CTI searches the address book for a match and brings up the corresponding record.

Other Cost-Saving Features Add Value

The Congo, Congo Voice Router and Congo Personal support all of ACC's exclusive bandwidth-optimization features at no additional charge. These features include data compression, Express Queuing and advanced dialing techniques.

ACC's graphical configuration tool, Web Wizard, makes it easy to set up the Congo Personal for ISDN access. Congo's optional Call Manager client software allows users to proactively manage call usage, and ultimately ISDN costs.

Smaller than most modems, Congo products are designed for desktop operation. Congo and Congo Voice Router support up to 10 locations, IPX (Internetwork Packet EXchange) The network layer protocol in the NetWare operating system. Similar to the IP layer in TCP/IP, it contains a network address and allows messages to be routed to a different network or subnet.  and TCP/IP routing, and 802.1D bridging. Congo Voice Router has two POTS ports for connection to phone and fax machines.

Standard Congo software includes PAP/CHAP authentication, 4:1 data compression, calling line ID, standards-based Multilink PPP, MP+, and intelligent contention and routing of audio calls to the two analog phone ports. The Congo family is also SNMP- and Telnet- manageable.
