Advanced Communications Technologies Inc. (OTCBB:ADVC) (ACT-US) today announced that the company's SpectruCell multiple protocol software defined mobile wireless base station has successfully demonstrated inter-operability with all other elements of a Global System for Mobile (GSM)-based mobile network. Support for other mobile protocols will be achieved in the coming months.

The successful completion of these tests establishes a major milestone in the development of SpectruCell, with the base station unit now able to definitively demonstrate the ability to establish calls, handle call control information, and terminate calls within a GSM network. This ability is a key facet of the SpectruCell commercialization campaign as it ensures that network operators can install SpectruCell with full knowledge that the unit will communicate with all other elements of their existing network.

ACT has already filed several patents relating to the implementation of CDMA (IS-95) on a software defined radio platform and has successfully demonstrated the ability to support CDMA (IS-95) without the use of Qualcomm (Nasdaq:QCOM) chipsets. The company will be filing additional patents in the near future with the aim of further strengthening its hold on the software define radio implementation of CDMA (IS-95).

In addition, the network tests further strengthen ACT's position as a leader in 3G mobile infrastructure and complement the company's recent announcement regarding the July 2001 release of hardware and corresponding development tools for software defined radio applications. The sale of these development tools, which will allow third party providers to develop mobile protocol software modules for the SpectruCell base station is expected to generate substantial royalty income for the ACT group, while at the same time firmly establishing SpectruCell's position as a global provider of 3G operating systems and network infrastructure equipment.

Paul Burns, ACT's Digital Signal Processing (DSP) Team Leader, recently presented a paper entitled "Achieving the Optimum Base Transceiver Station / Node B architecture for Single/Multiple Air Interface for 2G to 3G Migration" at the International 3G Forum's Technical Strategies Conference in Geneva, Switzerland.
