AdvanSys Offers New Ultra2 SCSI Chip Solution with I/O PRO; Sequential I/O 50% Faster than Competitive Products.

SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 5, 1999--

Advanced System Products, Inc. (AdvanSys) the company advancing connectivity for office, home and enterprise, now provides a highly integrated Ultra2 single-chip controller capable of producing twice the raw processing power of competing products currently on the market.

The AdvanSys ASC ASC Ambulatory surgery center, see there 38C0800 with I/O (Input/Output) The transfer of data between the CPU and a peripheral device. Every transfer is an output from one device and an input to another. See PC input/output.

PRO delivers industry-leading performance for workstations, servers, Raid configurations, back-up and storage cluster applications.

AdvanSys' ASC38C0800 Ultra2 chip is based on a patented hardware architecture, which utilizes a 40MIPS (Million Instructions Per Second) The execution speed of a computer. For example, .5 MIPS is 500,000 instructions per second; 100 MIPS is a hundred million instructions per second.  application specific RISC processor capable of supporting up to 60,000 I/O operations per second.  architecture and the use of AdvanSys' patented architecture, the ASC38C0800 can transfer data while significantly reducing host involvement in I/O transfers, requiring a maximum of only one interrupt per I/O operation. This results in sequential I/O that is 50% faster than is typically found in competitive products.

To attain less than one interrupt per I/O operation, AdvanSys employs its aptly named I/O PRO, the AdvanSys interrupt coalescence technology in which interrupts for multiple I/Os are coalesced into a single interrupt by the AdvanSys RISC processor and interrupt handler. In a February 1999 comparative test, using the Intel Iometer performance benchmark, AdvanSys outperformed competing top tier SCSI SCSI

utilization for overall I/O performance on high-end server systems running NT 4.0 with large numbers of disks when compared with other top tier SCSI competing products.

"AdvanSys' design expertise in creating highly integrated single chip connectivity solutions allows us to provide the performance and price point to deliver the highest value product for our customers", said George Brecht, vice president marketing for AdvanSys. "Our software architecture provides easy portability across system platforms while simplifying driver software requirements and ensuring driver transparency through new product generations. Couple this with our patented hardware architecture and our customers are assured of smooth upgrade paths and minimal porting time to new platforms at very attractive pricing levels."

Chip Features

The ASC38C0800 combines Ultra2 data transfer rates up to 80MB/s with PCI bursts of up to 133MB/s to guarantee excellent I/O performance for high-end desktop, workstation and server systems. I/O PRO to ensure the most effective CPU utilization and most efficient interrupt handling of any SCSI Ultra2 chip. Additional chip features include support for up to 15 devices on a 12 meter cable; PCI 2.2 compliant, 33MHz, 32 bit PCI burst transfer rates of up to133MB/s; Multimode I/O cells supporting both Ultra2 (LVD See LVDS.

AdvanSys SuperSCSI software for the PC incorporates the latest SCSI diagnostic software and consists of two components. SuperInstall, which provides speedy, error-free system set-up, software and driver installation and a diagnostic program to ensure all necessary software is in place and ready to function. SuperView, the second component, provides management information on areas such as your SCSI tree, driver registration to IRQ assignments, error messages, details of specific SCSI devices, and provides help screens addressing areas such as adding new devices to a SCSI tree to recommendations for correcting errors.

The AdvanSys SCSI Management software for the Mac user includes a suite of CharisMac utilities valued at $250.00. These utilities include the CharisMac Anubis Utility software (allows users to format, initialize To start anew, which typically involves clearing all or some part of memory or disk. , partition, install Macintosh device drivers and test media for defects) and the CharisMac CD AutoCache acceleration software (universal CD-ROM CD-ROM: see compact disc.
