Adtron Provides High Reliability Data Storage in Radstone Technology Rugged Card Drives for Military Vehicles.Business Editors/High-Tech Writers PHOENIX--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 20, 2001 Adtron Corp., manufacturer of high reliability data storage solutions, in cooperation with Radstone Technology, a world leader in rugged VME bus See VMEbus. products, Tuesday announced the integration of their SDDS SDDS - San Diego Do Something SDDS - Scrambled Digital Data Stream SDDS - Sensor Data Distribution Switchboard SDDS - Sleep Disorders Dental Society SDDS - Software Detailed Design Specification SDDS - Sony Dynamic Digital Sound SDDS - Special Data Dissemination Standard SDDS - Strategic Defense Development System Dual PC Card SCSI Bus Drive in Radstone's Rugged Memory Card Drive (RMCD RMCD - Rocky Mountain Cabin Decor). The RMCD is able to withstand extreme environments, shock, and vibration without loss of data. Its uses include loading of map or mission data, diagnostic or operational data logging, maintenance and software updates. The RMCD is an environmentally sealed drive supporting up to two PC Card/PCMCIA V2.1 slots. It can accept a range of removable media options and allows Commercial-off-the Shelf (COTS) PC Card technology to be utilized in a variety of military vehicles. Colin Davies, product manager, Radstone Technology commented: "Radstone's selection of a third party drive focused on two key aspects, quality and ease of use. The Adtron drive stood head and shoulders above the pack, well made and well supported. In practice, the drive ran straight out of the box with the wide variety of COTS operating systems used on Radstone's hardware. "The net result was that the integration of application specific drivers became a low risk development." "Adtron was able to provide Radstone with a drive that could meet their demanding performance requirements, and provide the added benefits of flexibility and long life," commented Alan Fitzgerald, president of Adtron. "We are pleased with this success at Radstone that extends the acceptance of the SDDS into the military marketplace, as demonstrated by Radstone's qualification of the SDDS for each of their five levels of ruggedization," added Fitzgerald. Adtron's SDDS Drive emulates a SCSI removable disk A disk module that is inserted into the drive for reading and writing and removed when not required. Floppy disks, Zip disks, Jaz disks and CD-ROMs are common examples. See magnetic disk and optical disk. Removable Zip Disk The Zip has been the most popular removable disk since the introduction of the floppies. or DAT (tape) drive using Flash, and replaces disks and tapes for reliable storage in harsh environments. The SDDS delivers high transfer rates, industry standard SCSI compatibility, PC Card hot swapping, high performance, high reliability, and long-term availability for applications in telecommunications, digital imaging, avionics, and military applications. Adtron designed the SDDS with the ability to upgrade the internal firmware in the field to support new PC Card technologies or changes in computer systems. This flexibility ensures access to the latest SDDS features without taking the unit out of service.
