Adtech Releases New ATM Software for SVC Signalling; Updated software allows more ATM testing across SVC networks.

HONOLULU--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 4, 1996--Adtech Inc. announced the release of software version 1.40 for its ATM SVC (asynchronous transfer mode switched virtual circuit) signalling hardware.

The telecommunications test equipment manufacturer claims that its latest version, based on ITU Q.2931 standards, supports the ATM Forum's 3.0 and 3.1 signalling specifications and allows the company's AX/4000 ATM test system to perform more tests on ATM equipment and data links across an SVC network.

"Some systems only test the signalling aspects of SVC calls," said Mike Gouveia, Adtech vice president. "However we feel it is equally important to test how well an SVC connection carries information between two sites."

In addition to SVC signalling tests, Adtech also provides the full power of its AX/4000 ATM Generator/Analyzer to the SVC connection. This includes generating and sending ATM test traffic using multiple distribution models, traffic shaping, traffic sequencing, class of service simulation, and error injection. One new feature of the software allows incoming information to feed automatically into an AX/4000 Analyzer. According to Adtech, this provides real time statistics, policing and histograms for each call and creates data files for off-line analysis using spreadsheets or other post processing tools.

"A single mouse click can establish a connection, generate test traffic and analyze incoming data," said Gouveia. "This is both convenient and economical since engineers can now test up to 10 simultaneous SVC circuits from each test port without changing any cables or physical connections. We see this as a major breakthrough in remote testing."

Adtech also included a new call loading feature in its software release. Designed as a stress test for switching equipment, call loading is a process that repeatedly sets up and breaks down calls in rapid succession. "By shaping the call loading parameters, engineers can mimic the subtleties of the variable traffic conditions found in real world environments," said Gouveia. "And increasing the call loading capacity is simply a matter of plugging additional ports into the AX/4000 chassis."

Version 1.40, which is an extended version of the Windows based AX/4000 control software, features a new user interface to simplify the task of setting up SVC calls. The software automatically sets the appropriate on-screen options when it detects SVC signalling hardware inside the AX/4000 chassis.
