Adtech Expands Operations to East Coast; Honolulu based company cites popularity of ATM as primary reason for eastward expansion.

CHEVY CHASE, Md.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 4, 1996--The recent surge of ATM (asynchronous transfer mode) development in the Eastern region of the United States is not making life simpler for system developers tasked with implementing this complex technology.

In the wake of this growth, ATM test equipment manufacturer Adtech Inc., announced the opening of a new Eastern regional office in Chevy Chase, Maryland, a suburb of Washington D.C.

"We've sold a record number of ATM test systems along the East Coast in the last year and the demand is still growing," said Vice President Mike Gouveia. "With so many ATM applications concentrated in this one region, we felt we needed to bring our support directly to our customers."

The primary function of the new office is to provide direct technical and sales support for the strong ATM market in the area. According to Kevin Dobis, sales manager for Adtech's Eastern region, many network developers are being asked to build elaborate ATM based networks that include a dizzying array of media types, protocols, and physical interfaces. "Developers have so much to worry about, they simply don't have time to think about isolating and testing the ATM layers of their application," said Dobis. "As ATM equipment providers, it is our responsibility to make sure that our products work for our customers; not the other way around."

Dobis, who oversees operations at the new office, continues to work closely with the company's headquarters in Honolulu. He takes advantage of the six hour time difference between the two sites by having engineers at the home office handle customer requests long after the East Coast closes for the day. Solutions in the form of email messages and FTP transfers are typically waiting for him at the office when he starts his day.
