, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 29, 2000

Adtech Inc., a SPIRENT Company, announces the BGP-4 Routing Emulation Option for its AX/4000 Broadband Test System. Combined with Adtech's real-time, full-rate traffic generation and analysis function, users can now validate their BGP-4 implementations for the highly stressed networks of today and tomorrow.

Core Internet Routers are the workhorses of the Internet contending with thousands of gigabits of traffic, and route tables of up to 75,000 entries plus. Next-generation Terabit Routers are expected to deliver terabits of throughput, handle larger routing tables of 300,000 entries or more, while maintaining carrier-class reliability.

"Adtech's BGP-4 Routing Emulation Option advertises up to 100,000 routes making it the industry's answer to realistic Internet-scale stress testing Determining the durability of a system by pushing it to its limits. Stress testing a network is performed by transmitting excessive numbers of packets or attempting to break in illegally. ," said Alan Sguigna, Adtech's vice-president of marketing. "By providing a comprehensive set of QoS performance metrics Performance metrics are measures of an organizations activities and performance. Performance metrics should support a range of stakeholder needs from customers, shareholders to employees [1].  for data flows across advertised routes, makers of next generation Gigabit and Terabit Routers can now be assured that their products will deliver real network performance and reliability."

The BGP-4 Routing Emulation Option provides convenient network set-up via its graphical user interface graphical user interface (GUI)

Computer display format that allows the user to select commands, call up files, start programs, and do other routine tasks by using a mouse to point to pictorial symbols (icons) or lists of menu choices on the screen as opposed to having to

The original class-based method used fixed fields for network IDs, which was wasteful.  format. The CIDR prefix distribution table lists prefix lengths, the number of networks associated with that prefix length and their associated starting IP address. User may use the default configuration or specify their own parameters for more control over the values and lengths of advertised prefixes.

In addition, Adtech's BGP-4 Routing Emulation Option flaps specified routes while performing real time IP QoS traffic generation and analysis for real-world control and data plane stress testing. This IP QoS capability includes sophisticated real-time distribution models with variable IP packet lengths and interarrival times plus auto-identification and analysis of incoming substreams based on virtually any type of IP traffic classification.

Users can also perform BGP-4 emulation over a variety of platforms from SONET OC-3c through SONET OC-192c including POS (1) See point of sale and packet over SONET.
