LAND OF THE LOST (12A) Verdict: HHIII

THIS movie opened to poor reviews in America and a bad box office, making it Will Ferrell's worst summer opening.

I'd go so far as to say that only diehard Ferrell fans, who love him making a fool of himself even when the script is awful, should bother forking out for a ticket.

Along with 12-year-old boys with a childish sense of humour who think the repeated groping of Anna Friel's breast is hilarious.

In this remake of a kitsch 1970s TV series, Ferrell plays Dr Rick Marshall, an annoying scientist who studies time warps and has written a book called My Other Car Is A Time Machine.

No one takes him seriously apart from Cambridge University graduate Holly Cantrell (Friel), who bizarrely thinks he's a genius and encourages him to build a Tachyon amplifier.

This machine somehow transports the pair, plus doofus tour guide Will Stanton (Danny McBride), to another dimension where "the past, present and future are all mashed up together".

This land of the lost is peopled by ape men, dinosaurs and weird aliens intent on invading Earth.

The plot and dialogue are ludicrous. Holly can understand ape language, apparently after spend-inthree years at Manchester Zoo.

I may have chuckled a couple of times, but generally the jokes are lame and done to death.
