Adrian's misery is complete when he is diagnosed with prostate cancer prostate cancer, cancer originating in the prostate gland. Prostate cancer is the leading malignancy in men in the United States and is second only to lung cancer as a cause of cancer death in men. , but things start to look up when Pandora Braithwaite, his first love, comes back into his life.

As with all the Adrian Mole books, this is laugh-outloud funny, yet achingly poignant. With the benefit of hindsight author Sue Townsend has captured the feelings of that post-Blair, pre-recession era. For Adrian, at least, the future looks optimistic.
