Adrian & Blissfield Railroad Wins National Safety Award.SE Michigan Railroad Honored for Sixth Consecutive Year WESTLAND, Mich. -- The Adrian & Blissfield Railroad (ABRR) received the prestigious "Jake Award - With Distinction" during a national meeting this Spring. This marks the fifth consecutive year the ABRR, headquartered here, has won the award for safety. The award will be presented to ABRR President Mark Dobronski at a ceremony in late April at the annual meeting of the American Short Line and Regional Railroad Association (ASLRRA) in Las Vegas by Richard F. Timmons, ASLRRA president. "While building a growing dinner train business and a thriving rail freight enterprise, Adrian & Blissfield Railroad employees have maintained an unshakable commitment to safety," said Dobronski. "This dedication to safety extends to all of our employees, our customers, and to the communities we serve. Safety is and will continue to be our top priority." The Jake Award is named after Jake Jacobson, a long-time railroad executive from Arizona who has championed rail safety throughout his career. The honor has been awarded annually since 1999 by the ASLRRA to railroads that have not had an injury, lost workday, or fatality reported to the Federal Railroad Administration for an entire year. The number of regional and short line railroads receiving the award has increased from 27 in 1999 to more than 200 in 2007, demonstrating the industry's increased focus on workplace safety. The Adrian & Blissfield Railroad was founded in 1991 and operates freight and passenger services on 30 miles of track located throughout Michigan in Lenawee County (Blissfield, Adrian), Eaton County (Charlotte), Detroit, and Lapeer County. In 2007, the company moved more than 2.5 million tons of freight and served nearly 10,000 dinner train passengers. The company ended 2008 as a record year for revenues, car loads and dinner train passengers. The AB operates the Old Road Dinner Train Blissfield, MI., the longest continually operating scheduled dinner train in the North America, and the Old Road Dinner Train Charlotte, MI.
