Adoption ban too "divisive".

When Ohio voters were asked in November 2004 if they wanted a far-reaching ban on all legal recognition of same-sex relationships, they overwhelmingly said yes. But a new bill to ban foster care or adoption by gays and lesbians is generating far less enthusiasm.

In fact, the measure, introduced on February 9 by a group of ultraconservative Republican legislators, may be dead on arrival. "There's a growing concern within the Republican Party of continuing to introduce this divisive legislation," said Scott Borgemenke, chief of staff for Republican house speaker Jon Husted, who said the bill was a low priority.

That's good news to Teresa Robinson and her partner of 17 years, Kelly Robinson, who are raising three biological children along with two foster children at their home outside Cincinnati. "We are all just human beings," Teresa told The Advocate. "It's critical we see we have differences, but we also have 95% commonality."
