Adoptation update: proposed state bans on adoption by gays have been making news in 2006. But so far none has made it very far.The Ohio house in February introduced legislation banning adoption and foster care by LGBT people. No movement is expected for the bill this year. In March, Utah's governor vetoed a bill passed by the state legislature that would have prevented nonbiological parents from having legal access to their kids in cases of separation from or death of the biological parent. In Massachusetts a bill was introduced in March to exempt religious adoption agencies from antidiscrimination laws. A bill pending in California would force judges to consider birth parents' moral values when placing their children for adoption. An Arizona bill giving preference to married couples over single people died in the state senate in April after the house approved it.
