Adobe reprices Acrobat Capture to bring powerful document imaging capabilities to a wider customer base and expanded distribution channels.

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 1, 1996--Adobe Systems Inc. announced that effective today Adobe(R) Acrobat(R) Capture(TM) software version 1.01 is now available at the suggested retail price of $895.

The new pricing will open broader distribution channels for the product enabling customers in small-to medium-sized businesses to easily purchase the powerful document Capture software through major mail order and retail software outlets.

Acrobat Capture software combines document imaging, optical character recognition (OCR), page decomposition and other technologies to covert paper based information into Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF) files, a standard file format that is widely used on the World Wide Web corporate networks and CD-ROM for the cross platform distribution of electronic documents.

Like OCR, Acrobat Capture converts bitmapped page images acquired from a scanner or from a fax card into electronic text. But unlike OCR, Acrobat Capture also preserves the exact formatting, page layout, text and graphics from the original paper pages in a single cross platform file.
