industries, to submit print jobs directly from a desktop computer, or laptop, to their corporate print centers via the Internet.

Servador's Webprint product (see separate announcement today on Servador's Webprint acquisition) is an enterprise print services platform connecting corporate users to internal print services. Adobe PDF Transit lets end-users quickly and easily submit print-ready files to an on-site print center or an outside commercial printer. Because it is based on Adobe Portable Document Format (file format) Portable Document Format - (PDF) The native file format for Adobe Systems' Acrobat. PDF is the file format for representing documents in a manner that is independent of the original application software, hardware, and operating system used to create those documents.  (PDF (Portable Document Format) The de facto standard for document publishing from Adobe. On the Web, there are countless brochures, data sheets, white papers and technical manuals in the PDF format. ), jobs can also be proofed over the Internet, creating an efficient, print workflow that can be managed remotely. Servador will integrate Adobe PDF Transit into its scalable Web service, complete with job ticketing and job management, optional pricing, and a co-branded, behind-the-firewall, print ordering interface.

"By combining Adobe PDF Transit with Webprint, we hope to make Internet-based print-on-demand a reality and a new standard for ordering and procuring all forms of printed material," said Doug Evans Doug Evans is the name of:

, chief executive officer of Servador. "Our goal in working closely with Adobe on PDF Transit is to further Web-enable the entire printing process, and to bring significant cost reduction to our customers."

Now, with the addition of PDF Transit, Servador customers can submit a print job--such as a corporate brochure, product catalog, or direct mail piece--and the Webprint product will convert the document into an industry-standard Adobe PDF file. After proofing the document from the customer's desktop, a print-ready file is sent directly over the Internet to the print center. Adobe PDF ensures the documents are printed and the job is completed, exactly as intended.

"Servador's integration of Adobe PDF Transit with Webprint is changing the way people manage print production by removing fundamental barriers in print production to create operational efficiencies," said George Cacioppo, vice president, Internet Printing Group at Adobe. "Servador is taking a significant step towards the network publishing vision of being able to print anytime, anywhere on any device."
