Adobe Systems Announces Adobe PageMaker 6.0 Software Development Kit For Macintosh Platforms; SDK Promotes Plug-in Development for Extending PageMaker Functionality.


MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 26, 1995--(Nasdaq:ADBE ADBE Adobe Systems, Inc. (stock symbol) )--Adobe Systems Incorporated today announced a new software development kit (SDK (Software Developer's Kit) See developer's toolkit and Windows SDK.

) for Adobe PageMaker PageMaker was the first desktop publishing program, introduced in 1985 by Aldus Corporation[1], initially for the Apple Macintosh but soon after also for the PC. The development kit provides an interface to the PageMaker program's menu commands, tools and publication data that enables third-party developers to create plug-in programs that extend the functionality of Adobe PageMaker software. The kit also includes comprehensive documentation in the Adobe Portable Document Format (file format) Portable Document Format - (PDF) The native file format for Adobe Systems' Acrobat. PDF is the file format for representing documents in a manner that is independent of the original application software, hardware, and operating system used to create those documents.  (PDF (Portable Document Format) The de facto standard for document publishing from Adobe. In addition to supporting the file format of Adobe PageMaker 6.0, new features of the SDK include private data, multiple master pages and access to the Story Editor. Private data enables developers to attach specific information to documents and page level objects, such as attaching a caption to a placed graphic. Through the SDK's new application programming interface developers can access and define up to 256 master pages within the PageMaker program to create page templates with repeating elements.

The PageMaker SDK also will be available through the Adobe Graphic Applications Plug-in Program. For an annual fee of $195 in the United States and Canada and $395 elsewhere, developers will receive the PageMaker SDK; development kits for Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Premiere and Adobe After Effects; regular updates, technical support, a monthly newsletter and discounts on Adobe software.
