, the first integrated Adobe PostScript language pre-flight and prepress production tool for the desktop platform. Used at both ends of the production process, the advanced software combines in one application the ability to see an at-a-glance assessment of work about to be processed with end-of-production tasks such as performing spot and process color A color printed from four separate printing plates. "As the prepress world advances on the desktop platform, there is a greater need for electronic process and quality controls on the production floor and in the entire design-to-print process," said Eric Bean, senior program manager for the Adobe Prepress Group. "Competition is fierce among production houses with prepress providers being under tremendous pressure to produce high quality work in the most cost-effective manner. The tools of traditional industrial manufacturing need to be applied to PostScript production, including quality and measurement feedback systems. PrePrint Pro will ensure quality and greatly increase the productivity and profits of prepress providers."

Pre-flight tools check PostScript file components for proper placement and specification before the file moves to prepress production.

PrePrint Pro 1.0 Features

PrePrint Pro lets users preview a file's font and ink specifications so that inks can be converted and font conflicts can be resolved before the job goes into production. Any imported PostScript file can be checked for errors. An ink selector and reader determines the component inks and density values. Font feedback states whether a font is embedded in the file, stored on the system, or available at the output device while giving users a choice over which version of a font to use when conflicts arise.

Extensive printing and separation options give the prepress professional flexibility. For instance, users can specify composite or separated output. PrePrint Pro 1.0 separates and previews color-conforming PostScript files independent of the file's heritage. Other key features include automatic font downloading; batch processing (1) Performing a particular operation automatically on a group of files all at once rather than manually opening, editing and saving one file at a time.
