Adobe Celebrates Creative Freedom for Independent Filmmakers at Sundance Film Festival 2006; Filmmakers Create and Deliver Award-Winning Films Using Powerful, Affordable Adobe Desktop Solutions.

SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Adobe Systems Incorporated (Nasdaq:ADBE) today announced that it is a presenting sponsor of the 2006 Sundance Film Festival and through this highest level of sponsorship is committing to support the innovation and vision of independent filmmakers. Additionally, with its cutting-edge, cost-effective desktop digital video and audio tools Adobe is driving many publicly accessible events including daily presentations and hands-on filmmaker workshops at the Sundance Film Center during the festival, which runs January 19-29 in Park City, Utah.

Adobe Everywhere at Sundance

Adobe will host daily hands-on training workshops on Adobe(R) Production Studio, Adobe Premiere(R) Pro, After Effects(R), Macromedia Flash(R), Adobe Photoshop(R) CS2 and Adobe Creative Suite, as well as presentations on new HD workflows being utilized by Hollywood filmmakers and commercial post-production artists at the Sundance Film Center. Filmmakers who've used Adobe products for their Sundance submissions will also share their process, providing live presentations outlining their entire workflow from production to delivery. Also in the Sundance Film Center, Adobe OpenHD desktop editing stations will be available for independent filmmakers to see first hand how Adobe Production Studio will bring new possibilities for their storytelling.

In addition, visitors and participants will find Adobe and its theme "Reel Ideas" everywhere at the 2006 Sundance Film Festival. The Adobe theme will be prominently displayed on buses, signage, street barricades and banners, as well as on the Sundance Web site and other venues.

Adobe in Action

Adobe has a long history of providing software tools to the independent filmmaking community. Adobe Production Studio (announced earlier this week) provides the most complete post-production software solution available today, combining full new versions of Adobe's world class video and graphics applications -- Adobe After Effects 7.0, Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0, Adobe Audition(R) 2.0, Adobe Encore(R) 2.0, and the latest versions of Adobe Photoshop CS2 and Adobe Illustrator(R) CS2 -- with time-saving innovations such as Adobe Dynamic Link that deliver a highly efficient workflow experience. Many independent filmmakers accepted to the Sundance Film Festival this year used Adobe tools to realize their creative vision. Several featured films include:

-- Fumi and the Bad Luck Foot: San Jose State University's breakthrough entry is one of six domestic animated films to be included in the 2006 Sundance Film Festival. From more than 4,000 entries in the short film category, seventy films were selected. San Jose State animation instructor, David Chai, directed the film which was produced using the Adobe Video Collection software including: Adobe Photoshop CS, Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5, After Effects 6.5, Adobe Encore DVD 1.5, and Adobe Audition 1.5 software.

"We are very excited that 'Fumi and the Bad Luck Foot' was chosen to be included in the 2006 Sundance festival from more than 4,000 entries in the short film category," says David Chai, San Jose State animation instructor. "Having won the Adobe Video Collection software in the Adobe Design Achievement awards competition last year, we feel especially proud to have put the Adobe software to use in completing this project. This impressive accomplishment reflects a strong commitment shared by San Jose State and Adobe to enable world-class filmmaking with modest financial resources."

-- American Hardcore: A PBS-style documentary with adrenaline-style effects chronicling hard-core punk bands like the "Circle Jerks," American Hardcore was directed by award-winning filmmaker Paul Rachman, with visual effects created by designer John Vondracek. Vondracek created the entire 80s-style opening sequence using Adobe After Effects and Adobe Photoshop CS2 software. Adobe tools were also pivotal in creating map sequences, explanatory graphics, and animated graphics that show where original hardcore bands played and how the bands' influence spread.
