Admirable efforts by parish council.So, the inhabitants
The game is based loosely on the concepts from SameGame. of the tiny Northumbrian coastal village of Cresswell, comprising 84 owner-occupied properties, are objecting to an additional 1,100 holiday caravans being thrust upon them (The Journal, October 22). The existing 600 are obviously just not enough to blanket the entire landscape. But 1,700 should achieve that aim. The efforts of the parish council in obtaining a petition with 80pc of the natives against the proposal is admirable ad·mi·ra·ble adj. Deserving admiration. ad mi·ra·ble·ness n.ad . I wish them luck in overcoming the customary contempt with which the opinions of parish councils seem to be treated by the planning authorities. Ah, but what about employment? "Up to" 150 jobs will be created, claim the developers. But what does that mean? Don't be surprised when only 40 part-time seasonal jobs appear. Ex-miners and ex-farmers please form an orderly queue. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder of course. But most people would think that what's left of the unspoilt coast is infinitely more attractive than the serried ser·ried adj.
