Adjusting for Slowdown?

With a slew of broad indicators pointing to a slowing economy, the strong business climate of the past several years could be on the wane. Some experts are even expressing concern that we may be headed for harder landing than previously anticipated, possibly even slipping into a recession. Adding to the general nervousness has been the continuing weakness on Wall Street. especially among the stocks on Nasdaq. Against that economic backdrop Backdrop may refer to:

, the Business Journal asks:

Are you making any adjustments to your business plan in case the long-running economic expansion comes to an end?

Of course we're making adjustments, but we look at this, the slowing economy and the shakeout Shakeout

A situation in which many investors exit their positions, often at a loss, because of uncertainty or recent bad news circulating around a particular security or industry.

During the dotcom boom and bust, numerous shakeouts occurred.
in the technology sector specifically, as an opportunity. We believe that the markets will reward companies that have strong management teams, strong business models and a strong revenue base. It's an old adage, but I believe the cream will rise. A friend of mine said it was a lot easier six months ago, and that's true, but I look at it like sports, when competition gets rough, the minor players are going to go away and the good athletes play up to the competition.

No, actually I'm in one of the industries that isn't really affected by the swings in the economy. If the times are good, people look for publicity, because it's less expensive and more effective than advertising. In times of recession, people usually cut back on their advertising dollars and look to spend more on promotions and publicity. So we seem to benefit no matter where the market is. Also, since I work specifically in the entertainment industry, a lot of my clients have noticed that people spend more on things like movie tickets and rentals during economic downturns because they're relatively inexpensive.
