The net loss for the six months ended December 31, 2002 amounted to $3,456,621 or ($0.07) per share, an increase of 56% over the loss of $2,219,695 reported for the six months ended December 31, 2001. Research and development expenses increased to a total of $2,618,885 for the six months ended December 31, 2002, an increase of 37% over the same period last year, due to the commencement of the EXHERIN(TM) clinical program. Amortization expense of $350,000 was recorded for the acquired intellectual property rights purchased from Oxiquant, Inc. This expense was offset by a $128,000 recovery of future income taxes. Cash, cash equivalents and cash pledged as collateral amounted to $4,212,298 as at December 31, 2002 compared to $8,754,845 as at June 30, 2002, the Company's last fiscal year end.
