Adept Hexsight 3.1 Software Now Includes OCR and

Data Matrix Tools and Support For FireWire Cameras

(Nasdaq:ADTK), a leading manufacturer of flexible automation for the fiber optic, telecommunications and semiconductor industries, today announced the release of Adept HexSight 3.1 vision software, with improved performance and an expanded software toolbox. The geometric locator tool in the new version of the software runs up to twice as fast and at half the memory as the previous version, without compromising the robustness or accuracy, and the software now includes support for OCR (Optical Character Recognition), Data Matrix and Bar Code reading. The software now also supports cameras based on the IEEE 1394 protocol (FireWire), eliminating the need for frame grabbers.

Adept HexSight vision software is an open system product that runs on a PC and uses off-the-shelf cameras and frame grabbers. Based on geometric characteristics, its locator tool can accurately find objects and discriminate between parts even in complex images with adverse lighting environments. This tool uses Adept Geometric Object Location, an advanced feature detection technology, to identify objects and patterns. This results in automatic parts identification and verification with outstanding robustness to clutter, lighting variations, image degradations and occlusions.
