: ADTK), America's largest manufacturer of industrial robots and a factory automation leader, today announced their new 200/300mm Flexible Front End Systems to be showcased starting today at the SEMICON West '00 Exposition. The Adept Flexible Front End Systems, including the Adept FFE 200 and the Adept FFE 300, combine wafer sorting and SMIF load functions into one compact tool integrated front-end system; reducing cycle times, process complexity and cost. The Adept FFE 200/300 units combine wafer value added Value Added

, Sort and Merge into a compact front-end system, eliminating the need for wafer sorters in the factory. The Adept FFE 200/300 systems are the only wafer handling systems on the market today using Adept's factory proven motion and vision control technology. Also being showcased at SEMICON West '00 will be The AdeptAtlas, AdeptVicron, Adept Windows Controller, Adept SmartModules, and Adept Digital Workcell.

"We've integrated discreet operations into one flexible front end system, reducing cost and time to market for our process tool customers," said Joe Campbell, vice president of marketing for Adept Technology. "Adept is unique in our ability to deliver this level of integration, given our extensive experience with robotics, machine vision and motion control."

The Adept FFE 200 is designed to be a replacement for adaptive `bolt-on' SMIF solutions; it fits within the same depth as current SMIF solutions and provides up to 4 SMIF load ports for optimizing tool utilization. The Adept FFE 200 enables the use of dedicated tool cassettes, reducing the risk of cross-contamination and tool robot mis-picks.

Designed to be the factory interface for 300mm tools, the Adept FFE 300 is configurable with respect to both layout and finish so that it looks like an integrated part of the process tool. The Adept FFE 300 is also 200mm configurable so that it can perform as a "bridge tool", capable of handling 200mm wafers now and 300mm wafers in the future.

Adept's products can be viewed at the Adept booth No. 7303 in the east hall in the Moscone Convention Center.
