Adelphia -- Cleveland City Council Neighborhood Technology Fund Grant Process Begins With City Wide Forum March 22nd.

Adelphia Cleveland, the Council of the City of Cleveland, and The Cleveland Foundation Established in 1914, the Cleveland Foundation was the world's first community foundation. In 2007 it ranks as America's third-largest community foundation, with assets in excess of $1.9 billion and annual grants surpassing $85 million.  announced today the initiation of the grant award process for a $3 million fund established to bring technology to the city's neighborhoods.

On Friday, March 22nd, Fund advisors will hold a citywide forum at The Cleveland Foundation to gain community input on the best uses for the Fund. Adelphia established the Fund after the Council approved the transfer of the City's cable television franchise to the company in late 2000.

A committee, consisting of three members appointed by the Council President, three members appointed by Adelphia and one member appointed by The Cleveland Foundation's executive director, will oversee fund distribution, making grants to programs and projects designed to promote the use of modern telecommunications and computer equipment and services by Cleveland residents through, among other things, training and making computers and the Internet more accessible.

) Program's central objective is to develop and expand community computer and technology centers and to provide the centers with technical and operational support. Funded community or computer technology centers must operate on a non-profit basis and use technology and computer hardware and software to provide the public open computer and Internet access.
