Adecco Where-the-Jobs-Are Report Shows Significant Hiring Increases Throughout Buffalo.BUFFALO, N.Y. -- In advance of the New York state unemployment report, Adecco (NYSE:ADO), the staffing industry's market leader in the U.S. and the world, today announced it is seeing a sizeable increase in demand for machine operators, line operators, quality-control professionals and warehouse professionals in Buffalo's manufacturing and distribution sector as well as for call center positions in the commercial banking industry. Buffalo is one of many areas across the country where Adecco is responding to a growing need for contingent workers from employers in a variety of industries. Linda McDonnell, Adecco's regional vice president in Buffalo, said, "Contrary to what the national numbers may indicate, we have been seeing a steady increase in available manufacturing jobs all year. In fact, in Buffalo we are up 20 to 25% in the number of manufacturing positions filled since this time last year." One explanation for this strong manufacturing growth comes from Anne-Marie Phelps, upstate New York area vice president for Adecco Technical, who said, "This time last year, we were filling a lot of positions in R&D for engineers, mechanical designers and test technicians. Strong R&D activity is typically the first part of a healthy product cycle, which culminates with the manufacturing and distribution of the products. This explains why Adecco Staffing has been filling more of those positions this year." "The even better news," continued Phelps, "is that we have maintained a high level of R&D placements this year, which would indicate a continued need for manufacturing workers until at least the end of 2006." McDonnell elaborated further, saying, "Local manufacturers are realizing that temporary workers are as useful in managing process as they are in managing projects. While Adecco continues staffing specific projects, we have become a recruiting and human resources management partner for our clients in recent years." Adecco has also responded to demand from banks in need of pre-holiday customer service professionals. "A lot of national banks have offices and call centers in Buffalo. This is typically a busy time of year for that industry, which accounts for the increase in orders we're receiving." Adecco releases its Where the Jobs Are report in advance of the state unemployment reports to provide more depth and breadth to the employment picture in selected regions.
