Adecco's 'Where-the-Jobs-Are' Report Shows Increased Seasonal Hiring in Columbus.

COLUMBUS, Ohio Columbus is the capital and the largest city of the American state of Ohio. Named for explorer Christopher Columbus, the city was founded in 1812 at the confluence of the Scioto and Olentangy rivers, and assumed the functions of state capital in 1816.  -- Adecco (NYSE NYSE

:ADO), the largest staffing company in the U.S. and the world, today announced it is seeing significant increases in demand for seasonal workers at distribution centers surrounding the Columbus area. Columbus is one of many locales where Adecco is responding to increased need for contingent workers in a variety of industries.

Bob Vogel Robert Louis Vogel (born September 23 1941 in Columbus, Ohio) is a former professional American football offensive lineman for the Baltimore Colts from 1963 to 1972. During that span he appeared in Super Bowl III and Super Bowl V for the Colts. , Adecco regional vice president, says, "Because Columbus is just 500 miles, or eight hours, from 70% of the US population, it has become a hub for manufacturers' distribution centers and logistics companies. The holiday season is always a busy time for these work sites, and this year is no different--except that we are seeing more activity than we did last year at this time. Increases are concentrated at logistics companies and at manufacturers of after-market automotive supplies, clothing, and all manner of consumer goods consumer goods

Job seekers should be aware that companies often use staffing services such as Adecco to provide seasonal workers, because only staffing services have the ability to provide the just-in-time contingent workforce A contingent workforce is a provisional group of workers who work for an organization on a non-permanent basis, also known as freelancers, independent professionals, temporary contract workers, independent contractors or consultants.  to meet spikes in demand. Currently, the most-needed skill is picking/packing, but managerial and administrative support positions are also available. As Vogel says, "Job seekers looking for Looking for

full-time positions may be in luck, too, because top performers in seasonal jobs have a high probability of being hired full-time once the season is over. Hiring contingent workers on a 'try-before-you-buy' basis is a no-risk way for companies to assess a person's job performance and for temporary employees to determine whether they want the job on a long-term basis. Job seekers should make their move now, because most employers need positions filled by mid-November."

Adecco releases its monthly "Where the Jobs Are" report in advance of the U.S. unemployment report to provide more depth and breadth to the employment picture in selected regions. The report is based on interviews with Adecco recruiters across the country and consists of press releases that report on hiring trends in regions experiencing employment growth. The trends in these regions are not intended to be indicators of nationwide trends.
