Addresses stolen in school bus break-ins.Byline: Rebecca Nolan The Register-Guard Personal information of about 650 Eugene schoolchildren schoolchildren school npl → écoliers mpl; (at secondary school) → collégiens mpl; lycéens mpl schoolchildren school was stolen over the weekend from buses parked at the school district transportation yard. The information includes the home addresses and photographs of children who ride on seven district bus routes, district spokesman Kelly McIver said. Officials don't think the information was the target of the thefts that occurred Friday night or Saturday morning at the yard at West Eighth Avenue and Garfield Street. But the district knows that families may be upset at the thought of children's photos and addresses in the hands of a stranger. Security procedures at the yard have been changed to prevent further thefts, the district said. Children on the affected routes were given letters Tuesday explaining the situation, and the district also mailed copies to their home addresses, McIver said. The theft was reported to Eugene police, who have no suspects, police spokeswoman Pam Olshanski said. The thief or thieves broke into 10 school buses and five maintenance trucks. They stole sunglasses, tools, compact discs, calculators and a cell phone, in addition to clipboards and binders containing printouts of student information routinely carried by drivers, McIver said. A district identification badge also was taken. "It appears to have every earmark earmark taking a piece out of the edge or center of the ear with a punch as an identification mark. The shape of the mark may be registerable under local legislation. of a smash-and-grab, where somebody gets access to something and grabs everything in sight and runs away with it," he said. Officials had not calculated the total dollar loss as of Wednesday. The district's primary concern was the anxiety caused by the crime, McIver said.
