Adaptive Solutions and Mitek Systems release first joint product.

BEAVERTON, Ore.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 16, 1997--Adaptive Solutions, Inc. (NASDAQ:ADSO) and Mitek Systems (NASDAQ:MITK) of San Diego, California today formally released the first joint product created since the companies' strategic alliance was announced in October, 1996.

The new product, Accelerated QuickStrokes, is an accelerated version of Mitek's market-leading QuickStrokes/API, which dramatically increases processing speed and capabilities for high volume forms processing, resulting in cost savings and faster turnarounds for a wide range of intelligent character recognition (ICR) applications in fields as diverse as transportation, finance, healthcare and insurance.

Designed for system integrators, forms processing vendors and service bureaus, the new version of QuickStrokes is a hardware-based machine and hand print reader that can accelerate production forms processing applications. Each Accelerated QuickStrokes engine performs up to seven times faster than a 200 MHz Pentium platform.

Accelerated QuickStrokes' rapid execution speeds are the result of combining Mitek's leading ICR QuickStrokes/API image recognition engine with Adaptive Solutions' high performance CNAPS PCI-XL accelerator boards. Benefits to the customer include greater accuracy, improved capacity to meet burst periods and a reduction in the number of machines required to process forms.

The new product stems from the strategic alliance formed by Adaptive Solutions and Mitek in October, 1996, in which Mitek agreed to use Adaptive Solutions' CNAPS PCI coprocessor board, and Adaptive Solutions agreed to resell Mitek's QuickStrokes/API Intelligent Character Recognition (ICR) technology as part of the their accelerated data entry solutions. The alliance positions both companies to strengthen their focus on key segments of the forms processing market, with both companies benefiting from a cooperative sales and marketing effort.

Mitek will focus their efforts on the application marketing of Accelerated QuickStrokes primarily to the service bureau and healthcare reimbursement processing markets. Adaptive will concentrate on the transportation and manufacturing markets and the sale of embedded accelerated data entry solutions within servers, PCs and peripherals.
