Adaptec Unleashes PC Power with Hot New Connection Cards for Cool New Peripherals; One Card Connects Up To Seven Peripherals.

MILPITAS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 3, 1997--Adaptec, Inc. has announced a new line of products that will give small office/home office See SOHO.  (SOHO Soho (sōhō`, sə–), district of Westminster, London, England, known for its continental restaurants. Once a fashionable quarter, it became popular among writers and artists in the 19th cent. ) PC users far simpler connections to high-performance storage and graphics peripherals such as Jaz, Zip, recordable CD, high-performance CD-ROM CD-ROM: see compact disc.

Type of computer storage medium that is read optically (e.g., by a laser).
and hard disk drives, and scanners.

One card, installed one time, gives users access to as many as seven of the coolest peripherals on the market.

Small business managers increasingly need sophisticated graphics, sound, and video and other powerful effects in their work. Peripherals that create these effects and the storage devices to accommodate them all must be connected to the computer, and therein lies the challenge. Each peripheral can require separate installation. Each can take up valuable space in the computer.

Such limitations often make it difficult and even impossible to attach additional peripherals to the computer. With the Adaptec product, SOHO users need to install and configure only one card to which they can connect up to seven best-of-class peripherals. This approach saves time, money, and frustration while allowing users to boost the usefulness and performance of their computers.

"Hard disk and floppy drives are no longer enough. New peripheral products offering fast access to graphics; unlimited, inexpensive storage capacity; and portability make it easy to enhance the performance and usefulness of the small office computer," said Faye Pairman, vice president and general manager of Adaptec's Distribution Products Group. "Affordable peripheral prices and the need for storage flexibility are making these products fly off the shelf. And Adaptec connects up to seven of them with a single card, a single slot and a single installation."

About the Products

The company's new SOHO products feature easy to install SCSI SCSI

(Small Computer System Interface) cards providing up to six times the performance of the parallel port. These cards include simple installation guides and users' manuals, with instructions tailored for the technology novice. New product packaging makes it easier to select the right SCSI card for a user's particular application. Connection cables are included in the packages, and are color-coded for "plug and play" installation. Additionally, customers of the products receive free technical support for two years.

The cards come with Adaptec's EZ-SCSI software, which makes installation and configuration simple, and provides powerful utilities to maximize peripheral performance.
