Adaptec Protects Your SCSI Peripheral Investment With Two New Cards for Macintosh.

SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 5, 1999--With built-in SCSI SCSI
in full Small Computer System Interface

Once common standard for connecting peripheral devices (disks, modems, printers, etc.) to small and medium-sized computers. SCSI has given way to faster standards, such as Firewire and USB.
coming off the Apple Macintosh Apple Macintosh - Macintosh  motherboard, Adaptec is now offering Mac users an easy and affordable way to preserve their valuable SCSI peripheral investment.

The new Adaptec PowerDomain 2930U is ideal for users desiring maximum performance from their faster SCSI peripherals like Jaz, CD-R (CD-Recordable) A writable CD technology using a type of compact disc that can be recorded, but not erased (CD-Rs are "write once" discs). CD-R discs are used to master CD-ROMs, to back up data and to make copies of data for distribution. , and DVD drives DVD drives come in a variety of speeds and options. The original drive (1x) transferred data at 1.35MB per second. By doubling the spindle speed (RPMs) for 2x drives, the transfer rate increased to 2.7MB/sec and has been increasing ever since. . The card provides 20Mbytes/sec Ultra SCSI performance that is up to four times faster than built in SCSI available in older G3 and other Macintosh systems.

The Adaptec SCSI Card 2906 provides Mac OS, as well as Windows 95, Win 98, and NT users, a reliable connection to their SCSI peripherals such as Zip drives and scanners. The card offers 10Mbytes/sec Fast SCSI performance that is up to twice as fast as the built-in Mac SCSI. The SCSI Card 2906, which supports both internal and external connections, replaces SCSI Card 2902 which only supported an external connection and the Windows '95 platform.

These two new SCSI cards for Macintosh augment Adaptec's existing line of high performance SCSI accelerator cards targeted at the professional video and publishing markets. Both new cards support old SCSI manager devices as well as newer SCSI manager 4.3 compliant devices. Both cards ship complete with cables and user manual, and are backed by Adaptec's five-year warranty.

"Macintosh users now have access to whatever level of SCSI performance that best fits their individual needs," said Jean-Eric Garnier, director of Adaptec's personal computing solutions group. "Many devices are faster than the previously provided built-in SCSI and therefore perform better when connected via a higher performing SCSI add-in card. This is good news for the Macintosh platform and great news for customers."

Pricing and Availability

Both cards will ship in late January 1999, and are available through Adaptec's online store at www.adaptec.com, direct from Adaptec at 1-800-442-7274, or from a number of Adaptec resellers and catalogues.
