Minimum system requirements for both Macs and PCs include a CD-ROM drive and at least one free main USB 1.1 compliant port or powered USB hub Self Vs. Bus Powered
Self-powered hubs derive their power from a wall outlet and provide up to 500 milliamps at each port. Bus-powered hubs obtain their power from the USB bus and deliver only up to 100 milliamps at each port. Sometimes, self-powered hubs can be used in bus-powered mode, but all of the ports may not be available. For example, a four-port, self-powered hub that is not plugged into an AC outlet may deliver 100 milliamps to only two ports.
