TRIUMPHANT Wolves Speedway boss Peter Adams has taken a swipe at legendary fourtimes world champion Barry Briggs Barry Briggs MBE (born 30 December 1934) from Christchurch, New Zealand is a former Speedway rider.

He won the World Individual title four times - in 1957, 1958, 1964 and 1966[1].

Adams led the Parrys International Wolves to a fourth top-flight title in last Monday's Grand Final at Swindon - taking his own personal total to a staggering eight with three clubs, Coventry and Cradley Heath Cradley Heath is town in the Black Country, located in the south-west of the Sandwell metropolitan borough, England. But immediately after handing the trophy to winning skipper Peter Karlsson, New Zealander Briggs - one of the sport's most famous names - claimed Swindon were 'robbed'.

Adams has hit back and suggested Briggs had one foot in the Swindon camp as a former Robins rider.

"This Wolverhampton team was the best in the league for two or three months in the buildup to the play-offs," he said. "And we were certainly head and shoulders above the rest in the play-offs themselves. We are worthy winners and anybody who says otherwise is just bitter.

Disappointed "Over the two legs of the final we were better than Swindon, that's why we're champions. I was only a little disappointed in Barry Briggs, a man I have the utmost respect for, and his postmatch comments.

"I know he wanted Swindon to win but he was presenting the trophy and said Peter Karlsson wasn't really injured. Maybe we should show him the X-rays of the collarbone colĀ·larĀ·bone

"And I'm told he also said Swindon were robbed on Sky TV. That's disappointing to me, but the bottom line is we are the champions and it's a very, very sweet feeling."

Meanwhile, Wolverhampton's prestigious Banks's Olympique handicap event will be a night of celebration tomorrow. The titlewinning team are all included. Coventry's Ben Barker and Chris Harris are included, alongside Eastbourne golden boy Lewis Bridger, Ipswich ace Scott Nicholls, and Monmore favourite William Lawson.
