Those prone to judging a CD by its cover might take a look at this one and dismiss it without listening as New Age fluff -- but that would be a mistake. There is music of substance here, performed with energy and intensity. Adam Rudolph plays a variety of percussion instruments, while his bandmates accompany him on a variety of instruments -- saxes, flutes of all sorts, bass clarinet, guitar, piano, percussion -- even a bassoon. When you see contemplation as the active probing and combining of many ideas rather than mindless meditation on a single theme, you will begin to see the aptness of this recording's rifle. Definitely not New Age, this recording is dedicated to

the late Don Cherry, who would no doubt have pulled out his pocket trumpet and joined right in had he been present in the studio.-- KWN
