Ada Expert Robert A. Duff Joins AdaCore Team.

 -- AdaCore, a leading Ada technology supplier, today announced the appointment of Ada expert Robert A. Duff to the company's core technical team. Mr. Duff will be responsible for designing and implementing enhancements to the GNAT gnat, common name for any one of a number of small, fragile-looking two-winged flies of the suborder Nematocera, order Diptera, which includes the families Tipulidae (crane flies), Bibionidae (hairflies), Ceratopogonidae (biting midges), Chironomidae (true midges),  Pro Ada Development Environment.

Mr. Duff was a key member of the language design team for Ada 95, the 1995 revision of the Ada programming language, which included support for object-oriented programming object-oriented programming, a modular approach to computer program (software) design. Each module, or object, combines data and procedures (sequences of instructions) that act on the data; in traditional, or procedural, programming the data are separated from the , data-oriented synchronization, programming-in-the-large, and real-time systems. Most recently, Mr. Duff served as Vice President of Engineering for SofCheck, Inc., where he was responsible for designing and implementing a static analysis tool to detect errors in Ada and Java programs. He has also served as Chief Scientist, Language Tools, at Intermetrics, Inc.; President and Consultant for Oak Tree Software, Inc.; Director of Engineering for Software Leverage, Inc.; and as a system software designer for AAI Corporation. Robert Duff holds a B.S. in applied mathematics from Carnegie-Mellon University.
