Ad pages, market share data for 10 months show CMP taking over leadership position.


MANHASSET, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 12, 1994--CMP Publications, Inc., closed the 10-month period ending October October: see month.  31 with a 15.9% jump in ad pages in a market that was essentially flat, taking over the lead in ad page sales and market share from Ziff-Davis, according to according to

In an overall market in which ad pages grew by just 1%, CMP's 15.9% growth represents an additional 3,858 pages over the 10 months, a period during which Ziff-Davis declined 12.5%, or 3933 pages, resulting in a 611-page lead for CMP CMP (cytidine monophosphate): see cytosine.

 grew 9.2%, picking up 1,508 pages--less than half the number added to CMP's publications--and McGraw-Hill stretched less than 1% with an additional 47 pages.

Ziff's new entry, Computer Life, is reflected in the 10-month ad-page counts. CMP's latest launch, NetGuide--a guide to cyberspace--will not affect page counts until next month.

"It's been a very strong year for CMP," said Ken Cron, the company's president of publishing. "We've had four successful launches, each reflecting our commitment to delivering the full technology spectrum--the builders, the sellers, and the users--and the market has responded."

Looking at market share points, CMP rose from 20.8% in October '93 to 23.9% in October '94 while Ziff-Davis dropped from 27.0% in October '93 to 23.4% in '94. The shift results in CMP claiming the largest share, leading Ziff by .5 share points in comparison to the same time last year, when CMP trailed by 3.6 share points. The gap was 3.6 share points in Ziff's favor last year; now CMP is ahead by .5 share points.
