Acupuncture Programs in America

Because there has been a rise in public acceptance toward complementary medicine and therapies, acupuncture programs are not only an excellent educational choice for aspiring practitioners, but for practicing medical doctors and nurses as well.

Find Acupuncture Programs in the United States and Canada. There are several acupuncture programs in which individuals can choose to enroll today; including diploma, certificate and degree programs geared toward Oriental medicine and Eastern medicine therapies. Some of the more popular acupuncture programs entail three or four-year graduate level courses in acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). There are, however, a number of acupuncture programs that are more advanced in nature; and are primarily offered as continuing education courses in auriculotherapy, Tai Chi, Qigong, meridian therapy, and other associated studies.

Complete acupuncture programs run roughly three to four years, and are comprised of in-depth studies in the history of Oriental medicine, anatomy and physiology, biomedical sciences, pathophysiology, integrative medicine therapies, needling techniques and acupuncture points, among other related subject matter. Often times, acupuncture programs are divided into classroom, internship and independent studies.

Additional studies that are commonly offered in a number of acupuncture programs include Chinese herbal medicine, Chinese medical massage (Tuina), Western and Eastern medicine theories, moxibustion, cupping, meridian theory, acupressure/Shiatsu, Five Element Acupuncture, and Chinese medical language.

While there is a growing number of acupuncture and Oriental medicine schools in America today, acupuncture programs are commonly found in healing arts schools, complementary and alternative medicine schools, as well as other integrative medicine universities and colleges. Because there has been a rise in public acceptance toward complementary medicine and therapies, acupuncture programs are not only an excellent educational choice for aspiring practitioners, but for practicing medical doctors and nurses as well. As a complementary therapy, acupuncture has been studied for several years and has shown promising results in the treatment of a variety of common health conditions and disorders.
