Actuate to Offer its e.Business Solution Through USinternetworking's AppHost Program.

ANNAPOLIS, Md. and SAN MATEO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 27, 1999--

USinternetworking, Inc. (Nasdaq:USIX), the leading Application Service Provider (ASP), and Actuate Corporation (Nasdaq:ACTU), the pioneer in e.Reporting(TM) for e.Business, today announced Actuate will offer its e.Business solution through USi's AppHost program. USi's AppHost program enables business software suites to be accessed over USi's unique global data centers and network. Actuate-the fastest, easiest and best way for companies to add business data to their e.Business Web sites-will leverage USi's ASP-grade infrastructure to offer Actuate's leading e.Business solution to clients without requiring them to build out their existing infrastructure.

"By offering its leading e.Business solution using USi's AppHost services, Actuate enables its end customers to access its Web content creation and management solution for business data on an outsourced basis, so that these customers can focus resources where they are needed most," said Daniel Neal, Vice President of Applications Hosting at USi. "We are pleased to help Actuate offer its application as a service."

USi's AppHost service was introduced to enable Independent Software Vendors to effectively provide their customers with their software products as Internet-based services. USi is the only company in the ASP market that built enterprise data centers and a global network specifically designed for delivering and managing Web-enabled business applications.

"As companies continue to look to the Web to run their mission-critical applications, we owe it to our customers to ensure they can access our products any way they choose," said Nico Nierenberg, Actuate's Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. "By leveraging USi's robust network, our customers - big, medium and small - have yet another means to employ these business tools and get their e.Business sites online as soon as possible."

USi's AppHost program will offer Actuate the ability to:

-- Leverage USi's experiences and innovative business model to increase market penetration;

-- Deliver software as a service rather than a product;

-- Add more successful customers and references;

-- Leverage USi's ASP grade infrastructure and brand to build market share.

Under the AppHost program, Actuate will additionally incorporate USi's Application Consulting and Engineering (ACE) expertise to implement Actuate AppHost solutions using USi's RAPID iMAP IMAP - Internet Message Access Protocol methodology.
