Activist killed for saying she's positive.


A volunteer working to end AIDS discrimination died December 22 after being severely beaten the previous day by her neighbors in the township of KwaMashu after she disclosed that she was HIV-positive. Neighbors claimed the news of her status brought shame upon their community.

Gugu Dlamini, 36, who was a volunteer for the National Association of People Living with HIV/AIDS HIV/AIDS Human Immunodeficiency Virus/Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome , went public about her HIV HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus), either of two closely related retroviruses that invade T-helper lymphocytes and are responsible for AIDS. There are two types of HIV: HIV-1 and HIV-2.
