ActiveSky(TM), a wireless rich media technology provider, and Openwave Systems Inc. (Nasdaq:OPWV OPWV Openwave Systems Inc. (stock abbreviation, AMEX) ), the worldwide leader of open IP-based communications infrastructure software and applications, have entered into an agreement whereby ActiveSky will develop a rich media technology module for devices using the Openwave(TM) Mobile Browser.

ActiveSky's technology provides rich media capabilities to cell phones and PDAs using current wireless networks as well as emerging 2.5G and 3G connections. The company's pure software approach delivers interactive animations, images and streaming video seamlessly through a simple microbrowser A Web browser designed for small display screens on smartphones and other handheld wireless devices. Under the terms of the agreement, Openwave will provide support for ActiveSky to develop an optional multimedia module allowing device manufacturers to add the ActiveSky rich media platform to mobile devices featuring the Openwave Mobile Browser A microbrowser from Openwave that enables smartphones to interact with the Web. Formerly known as the UP.browser, Version 3.x uses HDML, and Version 4.0 and up is WAP compliant. See HDML, WAP and Openwave. .

"The goal of our collaboration is to ease the process for wireless device manufacturers to combine the ActiveSky module with the Mobile Browser," Jeff Damir, group vice president, Openwave, said.
