Active Endpoints Announces Mark Taber as New CEO.

Taber brings proven success in simplifying Web services integration and security to SOA orchestration and business process management (BPM)

SHELTON, Conn. -- Active Endpoints, Inc., the leading provider of Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) orchestration solutions, today announced Mark Taber has joined the company as CEO. Mark brings more than 25 years of technology industry leadership including serving as IBM's Worldwide Business Unit Executive for their Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) Appliance Division, a part of IBM's Application Infrastructure Middleware Group.

"Mark has seen every side of our business from OEM partnerships to direct sales; from advocating practical advances in open standards to developing ground-breaking SOA technology products," said Fred Holahan, chairman and co-founder of Active Endpoints. "He is a natural fit with the team and we look forward to leveraging his vast experience."

Taber joined IBM through its 2005 acquisition of DataPower, where he was vice president of sales. There he provided mission-critical Web services infrastructure to more than 300 large enterprise and government customers around the world helping them to simplify, manage and secure scalable Web services communications in heterogeneous environments.

"Service orchestration has yet to take off because the infrastructure involved is too rigid. As a result, while developers are adding Web service interfaces at an incredible rate, they're also finding ways to circumvent infrastructure. BPEL has the potential to transform BPM by adding the flexibility required in a world where collaboration time is measured in months not years," said Taber.

"Simplification and consumability are what's missing from BPM and workflow today. What we did so well at DataPower was to simplify technology for the ESB space using an appliance," said Taber. "Now at Active Endpoints, I see a similar opportunity to make BPM easier to implement. We need to simplify options for our partners and customers who want the best standards-based technology. Active Endpoints, as the preeminent BPEL-focused company, is poised to lead the charge."

"Mark is well known and trusted in the market. He understands the world of SOA is not a precise game. There is a balancing act to deliver benefits. We're delighted to have his balance of business and technical leadership at Active Endpoints. He will drive Active Endpoints to simplify the integration of BPM with SOA and capitalize on their incredible BPEL assets." said Active Endpoints' Board Member Michael Skok. "We have complete confidence in Mark's ability to make Active Endpoints a force in software development via our proven BPEL offerings."

Before DataPower, Taber served as vice president of sales at AEP Systems, where he focused on increasing security in financial and government networks and enabling secure remote access for small- and medium-sized businesses. Prior to AEP, he was vice president of sales and marketing at Chrysalis-ITS, where he worked with computing and networking OEMs to remove security-related performance bottlenecks. He also served as regional vice president at Toshiba America Information Systems-Storage Division. He holds a bachelor's degree in economics from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.
